Lapidary Shop

Cost: $5 Class fee.

Saw Shop

Lapidary skills were the first area of gem and mineral club skills offered by the new club in 1968. Cutting and polishing rocks still represent a central skill needed for most of the other classes offered by the club.

The lapidary shop has 21 workstations consisting of a grinding machine with two wheels of differing grit. We also have three slab saws that can be used to cut the rock in the basic shape before grinding and a dop station for attaching a dop stick to the rock you are working with. During your Lapidary orientation class, you will finish with a polished cab. After orientation, you can use the lapidary shop any time it is open to members.

New members must have taken the general orientation required of all new members. General club orientation is Wednesday from 12-1pm in the Craft Barn. This shop also requires a mandatory shop orientation which is offered each Thursday morning at 9:00 am in the lapidary shop. Be sure to sign up for the shop orientation in advance to ensure space is available for you to attend.  All people using this shop must be members.
