The lab-grown opal class is designed to teach the basics of solid opal cutting and polishing to beginners. You will cut and polish lab-grown opal cab(s) using flat laps.
We teach how to cut triplets and solid opal using natural opal in the Natural opal class. A triplet is an assembled opal using the backing and a glass cap to fortify the opal.
The opal room is equipped with flat laps and opal supplies for a maximum of 7 students per class. Some opal is available through the club, but you may also bring your own opal. Simulated opal, Mexican opal, Spencer (Idaho) opal, Ethiopian opal, and Australian opal are available for purchase through the club. We only sell our opal stock to students at the time of the class.
Sign up sheets for opal classes are in the hallway in front of the opal room. Sign up is recommended although walk-ins may be able to take the class depending on availability. The maximum number of students is 7.
